Can an artisan be an artist?
The word 'art' is also related to the word 'artisan.' An artisan by definition is 'a worker in a skilled trade who makes things with their hands.'
We are very proud to say that ALL our products are made by WOMEN!
The AMAYA Jewellery Collection, the Original Wayuu bags and The Italian Scarves have the touch of every single woman who put out her love and heart on every handmade piece.
For the AMAYA team is very important not just to make emphasis on presenting beautiful handmade objects of the highest quality, but it is equally important to show the stories of their makers .
The Wayuu Women
We value the work of women artisans. We work with skilled Wayuu women - individual artisans and women-led artisanal enterprises - across La Guajira.
“To be a woman is to know how to weave” is the Wayúu saying.
For Galeria Amaya is very important supporting initiatives that create economic empowerment for women. Wayuu Women and their crochet technique is a powerful source of empowerment – most women in traditional communities already carry exceptional craft skills, shared by mothers, aunts and grandmothers in informal settings. Through their traditional woven motifs, they share their cosmological view of the universe and their traditions are passed down from generation to generation.
